Dr. Puchalski, the founding physician and Chairman at SCENT, is board certified in otolaryngology and sleep medicine. He also completed a fellowship program sponsored by the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA) and passed his AAOA allergy certification exam in 2005. Dr. Puchalski has a special interest in obstructive sleep apnea and rhinology. Dr. Natalie Sciarrino

Natalie Sciarrino, MD, is the latest addition to the professional staff at South Carolina ENT, Allergy and Sleep Medicine. She received her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, and completed her residency in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is board certified with the American Board of Otolaryngology.

Dr. Sciarrino's areas of focus will be allergy, rhinology and working with the pediatric population. She has also been involved in ongoing research on a number of topics including patient safety during transitions of care; the use of BOTOX injections for facial rejuvenation. Dr. Sciarrino is very committed to patient safety. She led the implementation of a team training system focused on improving patient safety within her training program.

In addition, Dr. Sciarrino has presented on a number of topics, including pediatric rhinosinusitis and pediatric tympanostomy tube removal. She has been published in a number of professional journals, including the International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Extra and JAMA Otolaryngology. Dr. Sciarrino is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Association for Physician Leadership. She has studied abroad in Spain and traveled on medical trips to Central America, where she has been able to continue enhancing her Spanish skills.

Brian N. Boone, MD

Brian N. Boone, MD, a board-certified otolaryngologist, has joined the staff of SCENT (South Carolina ENT, Allergy and Sleep Medicine). He received his medical degree from The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, and his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. He completed his otolaryngology residency at University of Florida Health in Gainesville, FL.

Following his residency, Dr. Boone returned to North Carolina where he worked as an otolaryngologist for Mann ENT in Cary. While there, he also served as lead investigator for a research study to evaluate a promising remedy for patients with fluctuating dizziness, hearing loss, tinnitus, and ear fullness due to Ménière’s Disease.

Dr. Boone’s strong interest in research began while he was an undergraduate at UNC. As a biomedical research technician, he was involved in a translational research project on a protein that was a potential diagnostic marker for a variety of early stage cancers.

Dr. Boone has extensive training in all aspects of general otolaryngology and has been published in Otology and Neurotology and Molecular and Cellular Biology, both peer-reviewed journals. He has given presentations on ENT-related topics for the Florida Society of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, the Jon B. Tingelstad Conference on Practical Pediatrics, and other organizations. He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology.

Dr. Boone is an avid college sports fan and enjoys watching and playing golf, cooking, carpentry, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Valerie A. Fritsch, MD, has joined the staff of SCENT as an otolaryngologist.  A native of Kentucky, she completed her residency in otolaryngology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC., where she also received her medical degree. She completed her undergraduate degree in exercise science at the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC. 

She is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, the American Medical Association, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Fritsch’s research interests include cancers of the neck and throat. She has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and publications including Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Head & Neck, the Journal of Surgical Oncology, the Laryngoscope, the American Journal of Surgery, the Journal of Pediatric Surgery, American Surgeon, and the Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology.

She has also given presentations on neck and throat cancers and other ENT-related topics at the AHNS Annual Meeting, the IFHNOS 5th World Congress and AHNS Annual Meeting, the AAO-HNS Annual Meeting, the South Carolina/North Carolina Societies of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery Assembly, the 8th International Head and Neck Cancer Symposium, and the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology Spring Meeting.

In addition, Dr. Fritsch has served as an ad hoc reviewer for Melanoma Research and JAMA Otolaryngology, as a medical school instructor, and as a patient care technician.

Dr. Fritsch is also an avid runner, and has completed 13 marathons. She also enjoys yoga, stand-up paddle boarding, travel and music.

Mariangela Rivera, MD has joined the staff of South Carolina ENT. She will specialize in cancers of the head and neck. Dr. Rivera is certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS).

She completed an internship and general surgery residency at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, NV, where she also served as a general surgery research resident. Dr. Rivera also completed a fellowship in head and neck surgery at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. She holds a medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT, and an undergraduate degree in chemistry from SUNY Stony Brook, Stony Brook, NY.

Dr. Rivera has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Surgical Infections, Vascular, and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. She has presented at national meetings on a variety of topics including robotic surgery and melanoma.

Dr. Rivera’s clinical focus is on improving quality of life in patients who have undergone major head and neck resection. Her research interests include creating software for improving post-operative monitoring and creating streamlined clinical pathways for the treatment of head and neck cancer patients.

She is a member of the American Head and Neck Society, the American College of Surgeons, and a former member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.

Dr. Rivera is bilingual, and enjoys ballroom dancing, hiking, camping, skiing, baking, and knitting.

An allergy sufferer herself, she will work primarily with South Carolina ENT’s allergy patients.
Evelyn received both her MSN and BSN from the University of South Carolina (USC). She is licensed to practice nursing in South Carolina with practice privileges in North Carolina. She also holds Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. 

Evelyn’s professional experience includes more than 14 years practicing in a rural health clinic, diagnosing and treating mental and physical health problems among an underserved population. Seven and one-half of those years were in a long-term care facility managed by the clinic. She also practiced at Doctors Care for two years where she treated more urgent care and emergency type health concerns. Prior to that Evelyn worked for the SC Department of Correction, working with yet another special needs population. 
She started her nursing career at Richland Memorial Hospital, now Palmetto Health Richland, where she had the opportunity to be mentored by multiple physicians. Working in an urgent care type setting, she was able to observe different treatment approaches, as well as diagnose and treat health care problems not typically seen in the usual primary care setting.

Whitney brings a broad range of nursing experience to the practice, including pediatrics, university student health, family practice, and hospice care.

Whitney received her MSN from Francis Marion University in Florence, SC and her BSN from Lander University in Greenwood, SC. Dr. McGee has over a decade of experience as a clinical audiologist and has worked with adult and pediatric patients at clinics in Virginia and Mississippi, before moving to South Carolina.
